Creating a Text File with Microsoft Excel
To create a tab-delimited text file in Microsoft Excel for uploading to PartBridge.com, follow these steps:
- Set up an Excel spreadsheet with the proper column headings. The first row (or record) must contain all the column headings. In Excel, the file will look something like this:
![]()
Note: An Excel template for capital and expensed equipment is available from PartBridge's Upload page. Look for this link:
![]()
If you see an "Enter Network Password" box when trying to download the template, click Cancel until the file appears in your browser.
- Enter data in all the columns for which there is a value. If a field is not required and there is no value, leave the column blank for that row. In other words, the column heading must be present even though the value is blank.
- Select File > Save As, provide a name for the file, and choose Text(Tab Delimited)(*.txt) from the pull-down list.
- If you see a box that says, "The selected file type does not support workbooks that contain multiple sheets...," click OK.
- If you see a box that says your file may contain features that are not compatible with Text (Tab Delimited), click Yes.
The Excel spreadsheet is saved as a text file that looks something like this:
![]()
- Save and close the file.
