Access, Microsoft

Microsoft Office database program. See Creating a Text File with Microsoft Access.

active asset no

The active asset number of an asset (capital and expensed equipment)

active participant

A PartBridge user who has a current posting of excesses and/or shortages.

append

To add a new posting to existing postings. See Adding a Single Posting (Sellers) and Adding a Single Posting (Buyers).

asp file

Active Server Page (ASP). A document that contains embedded server-side scripting. ASP-compatible Web servers can execute these scripts. On the client side, an ASP is a standard HTML document that can be viewed on any platform using any Web browser. PartBridge.com web pages are written in asp.

autocancel

To systematically cancel a transaction when no action has been taken after a pre-defined amount of time has elapsed.

Example: A transaction pending buyer approval is autocanceled if the buyer does not approve the transaction within seven calendar days.

available user

Direct Materials only--A registered PartBridge user whom you can choose as an "Included Participant" if your company has set up business rules and relationships.

BOL (Bill of Lading) number

A number used for tracking material by transport carriers.

business

A group or entity with a common business goal. Business information entered during the registration process.

business rules

Direct Materials only--A field that gives sellers of excess materials the ability to specify percentage discounts and their respective expiration periods for different defined groups of potential buyers.

Example: 0,10,50 means the first group of buyers receives a 0% discount, the second group receives a 10% discount, and the third group receives a 50% discount.

Buy Opportunities

A list of posted excess materials that matches a Buyer's post of materials or equipment in shortage (Direct Materials only), or a list of posted excess materials that results from a Buyer's search query. At the Buy Opportunities window, a Buyer can submit offers to buy excess materials or equipment.

Buyer

The person responsible for authorizing Buy Offers. In this User's Guide, Buyer may also refer to a potential Buyer.

capital and expensed equipment

Equipment and supplies that support the functioning of the company.

Example: furniture, test equipment, office equipment.

case sensitive

The ability to distinguish between upper case and lower case letters. The PartBridge.com search functionality is not case sensitive.

Cm Cd (Commodity Code)

Direct Materials only--Specifies to which commodity grouping the part has been assigned. (May not be applicable for all companies.)

Example: Capacitors/Resistors

comments

Comments input by the person initiating an offer or responsible for approval.

contract manufacturer

Contract Manufacturers (CMs) provide manufacturing services to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). These OEMs contract with CMs to build their products for them or to obtain other related services.

controller number

A unique identifier for the part owner.

date available

The date the asset or expensed item will be available.

Example: 04/24/2002

date code

A free form field for entering the datecode of the part.

Example: 01 or 2001

department

The department of the entity advertising the excess equipment or capital and expensed equipment.

description

Detailed description of the part or equipment.

Example: oscillator

direct materials

Materials used in the manufacture of the company's products.

Example: capacitor, diode

division

A subunit of a company; equivalent to "entity." Business information is entered during the registration process.

elements, report

The data elements that are displayed on a report, such as quantity and model number.

email address

The email address of the individual responsible for making buy and/or sell decisions for the part or equipment. See PartBridge.com E-mail Messages.

Example: mkaiser@excave.com

email frequency

The schedule for receiving email messages from PartBridge with reminders and information about actions to take, pending transactions, and other updates. See Setting Up Your E-mail Schedule.

Example: "Realtime" means you receive updates as soon as PartBridge recognizes the need to notify you of an action or event requiring your attention.

entity

A subunit of a company that is identified by a site entity number. Equivalent to "division." Business information is entered during the registration process.

equipment location

The physical location of the assets or expensed items.

Excel, Microsoft

Microsoft Office spreadsheet and analysis program. See Creating a Text File with Microsoft Excel.

expedite

Speed up, hasten the delivery of an order.

expedite carrier

The shipping company used when purchased items are to be shipped on an expedited basis.

Example: UPS, FedEx

filters, report

The data elements that define the range of results shown in a report, such as inclusive dates, a range of quantities, or a description.

Direct Materials only--A registered user whom you designate to receive e-mail notification when postings and/or searches result in buy and/or sell opportunities.

indirect materials

Materials that support the on-going function of the business, such as office equipment and test equipment.

Example: furniture, PCs, test equipment

integer

A whole number (not a fractional or decimal number).

internal part no

The part number assigned to the part inside the user's company or business. PartBridge users can search for Direct Materials buy and/or sell opportunities using internal part numbers.

Example: 1810-1234, 0180-1234

invoice

An itemized list of goods shipped, usually specifying the price and the terms of sale.

invoice ownership

Direct Materials only--An indication of whether the invoicing process is initiated at the user's location (locally), or centralized at another business location.

item number

A system-generated reference number applied to each posting made up of Company ID, Date, and a sequential number suffix.

Memorized Report

A report format defined by the user that can be used repeatedly to generate PartBridge reports. See Using Memorized Reports.

message center

The area at the top of every PartBridge screen where you can see the status of your activities. See The Message Center.

metrics

Direct Materials only--In PartBridge, reports displaying various measurements of a participating company's buying and selling activities over a pre-defined period of time.

mfr

The manufacturer of a part or asset.

Example: Motorola

min acceptable bid

The minimum acceptable offer that your company will accept from a potential buyer (in U.S. dollars).

Example: $100.00

minimum transaction amount

Direct Materials only--The minimum amount, in U.S. dollars, per line item, that makes the transaction "worthwhile" to the seller.

Example: $100.00

model no

The model number of an asset or part.

Example: A3145, D2361E

mpn

The part number assigned to the part by the manufacturer.

Example: SOS-M4-8

need qty

The shortage quantity, posted as a negative number.

Example: -500

net book value

The current value of the asset being carried on the company books; the original value of the asset less depreciation.

Example: $10,435.25

new

With respect to opportunities and transaction pending seller approval, "new" means that the Buyer or Seller has not yet viewed the opportunities or pending seller approvals at their respective PartBridge windows.

participant

A person who has registered as a user of the PartBridge tool.

passive participant

A PartBridge user who has no active (current) postings of shortages or excesses.

password

The unique set of alphanumeric characters that allows a PartBridge user to logon to secure pages of the tool.

Example: secretword123

percent match

Displayed as %Match, this field shows how closely a posted excess matches a posted shortage or how closely a search for buying or selling opportunities matches a corresponding posted shortage or excess. % match for Quick Search for Direct Materials is based on Manufacturer Part No (MPN) (external) or Internal Part Number (IPN) (internal). % match for Quick Search for Capital and Expensed Equipment is based upon Model #.

Example: A seller posts an excess of parts with a manufacturer's part number of 123A and a buyer posts a shortage of parts with manufacturer's part number of 123B. Because 3 out of the 4 characters in the MPNs match, PartBridge displays a 75% match.

pkg

The type of packaging for the part as it exists in inventory.

Examples: Bulk, Tape and Reel, Tube

placeholder

Substitute character; In PartBridge searches, the question mark character (?) can substitute for another single character.

Example: Entering A123? in the Model # field of the Advanced Search window causes the PartBridge tool to search for Model #'s that begin with A123, such as A1234, 1235, 1236, etc.

PO

Purchase Order; written authorization for a supplier to ship products at a specified price, which becomes a legally binding contract once the supplier accepts it.

post

The process of uploading or sending a file to PartBridge; may also refer to the file itself. See Uploading Capital and Expensed Equipment.

profile, user

A set of information about a user, such as name, address, email address, and telephone numbers.

qty avail

The quantity of the parts the user has in excess, expressed as a positive integer.

Example: 10,000

Realtime

With respect to PartBridge e-mail messages, "realtime" means that the tool will send e-mail to the appropriate recipients as soon as the messages are generated. Otherwise, the messages are sent according to a schedule defined by the user during registration. See Setting Up Your E-mail Schedule.

report

In PartBridge, a summary of a company's buy and sell activities over a certain period of time. See Generating Reports.

RMA

Return Material Authorization; a document that controls the return of parts previously sold and shipped to a customer.

RMA ownership

An indication of whether the RMA (return material authorization) process is initiated at the user's location (locally), or centralized at another business location.

Seller

The person responsible for posting excess materials and equipment. In this User's Guide, Seller may also refer to a potential Seller.

Seller Approval Pending

A transaction in which the Buyer has submitted an offer to buy certain materials or equipment from the Seller. The transaction closes when the Seller accepts or declines the Buyer's offer. See Working with Sell Approvals Pending.

serial no

The serial number of an asset.

standard cost

The user's current standard cost. This data is only visible to the user and other participants within the same company.

Example: $2.0900

sub category

One of the following categories describing capital and expensed equipment: Process Equipment, Test and Measurement Equipment, Material Handling Equipment, Furniture, Office Supplies, and Other.

Example: Furniture

tab-delimited text file

A file with the extension txt in which columns of data are separated by tabs. See Creating a Text File.

transaction ID

Sometimes abbreviated Trans ID or TID, the transaction ID is a number assigned to a transaction in PartBridge when an offer is met with an acceptance and the buyer submits a PO number. Trans ID is comprised of a company identifier, the initiation date, and a sequential assigned number suffix.

user

A person who uses the PartBridge tool to buy and sell materials, and/or generate reports and metrics.

Example: a company buyer

user profile

A set of information about a user, such as name, address, email address, and telephone numbers. See Registering as a New User.

user name

The unique set of alphanumeric characters identifying a user at login.

Example: companybuyer1

waybill number

Number of the document used to track material by transport carriers.

wildcard

A character, usually an asterisk (*), that substitutes for one or more other characters. In PartBridge windows, wildcards can be used to define search parameters, such as model numbers.

Example: A123* entered in the Model # field of the Advanced Search window causes the PartBridge tool to search for all model numbers that begin with A123, including A1234, A12345, A123678, etc.
